Job Description:
One of a few international companies offering overhead electrical infrastructure products to Electrical Utilities in Africa and renowned international clients in Europe and the USA. For over 40 years, and with emphasis on innovation and quality, they have been designing, planning, manufacturing, managing and executing complex Overhead Line / Overhead Traction Equipment supply projects – all to the highest international quality standards – from their manufacturing facility boasting efficient in-house processes and equipped with technologically-driven equipment including silicone rubber injection moulding, gravity cast aluminium and ductile iron foundries, helical wire form production plant, fibreglass reinforced polymer core pultrusion plant, as well as state-of-the-art tool and die development and manufacturing.
Purpose: Development of products and manufacturing processes in line with the overall company strategic objectives, specifically on composite insulators.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), preferably BSc (Eng) (ECSA registration advantageous). 5+ years of exposure in an engineering product design and manufacturing industry (preference will be given to candidates with experience in high voltage outdoor insulators). Experience in the electrical power transmission and distribution industry a distinct advantage.

Reports to: Product Development Manager and General Manager: Technology.
Reporting, total staff compliment: 1.
Job titles of direct reports: Production Technician.
Primary purpose: Development of products and manufacturing processes in line with the overall company strategic objectives, specifically on composite insulators.
Occupational tasks:
Product Development (responsible):
- Ensure completion of composite insulator engineering projects are within cost and time limitations.
- Responsibility covers prototype designs, technical qualification and testing internationally.
- Manufacturing process design and implementation (Silicone Injection Moulding and Finishing).
- Continuous Improvement of product design and costing.
Product Manufacturing (support):
- Assist the respective manufacturing department with the reduction of production waste
- Continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste during manufacturing.
- Provide guidance to the receipt inspection team on all related incoming materials to be used on composite insulators.
- Provide guidance to the release inspection team on related FG product release criteria.
- Assist with technical guidelines during the supplier qualification and audit processes.
- Procurement and Quality
Sales and Marketing (support):
- Assist in the compilation of tenders and other customer enquiries by completing all technical submissions on composite insulator products.
- You are responsible for leading composite insulator product design/operation related non-conformances – both internal and external complaints.
Leadership:
- Administer annual performance appraisals with the Production Technician
- Identify performance gaps and formulate a plan to address shortcomings through an individual development plan (IDP)
- As one of the custodians of the company’s Code of Conduct; motivate, guide and discipline (as the case may be) to encourage acceptable conduct with your dire reports.
Work Systems:
- CADD (Computer Aided Design and Draughting) – Intermediate
- FEA (Finite Element Analysis) – Intermediate to Advanced
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint): Medium to Advanced Level
- SHEQX: Intermediate to Advanced Level – an added advantage. Must have background on non-conformance management software
- ERP (SYSPRO): Basic Level

Job Qualification & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), preferably BSc (Eng).
Professional registration with ECSA an advantage.
