Job Description:
One of a few international companies offering overhead electrical infrastructure products to Electrical Utilities in Africa and renowned international clients in Europe and the USA. For over 40 years, and with emphasis on innovation and quality, they have been designing, planning, manufacturing, managing and executing complex Overhead Line / Overhead Traction Equipment supply projects – all to the highest international quality standards – from their manufacturing facility boasting efficient in-house processes and equipped with technologically-driven equipment including silicone rubber injection moulding, gravity cast aluminium and ductile iron foundries, helical wire form production plant, fibreglass reinforced polymer core pultrusion plant, as well as state-of-the-art tool and die development and manufacturing.
Purpose: To take legal accountability for equipment and services and to plan and manage engineering projects to meet the objectives of the business. Responsible for Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, Reliability, Engineering and Planning. Overall engineering responsibility for the plant.
Minimum requirements: Degree in Engineering preferably Electrical. Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Factories. 5+ years of Engineering experience as a Plant Engineer across multiple disciplines in a plant maintenance environment.

Reports to: General Manager: Operations.
Primary purpose: To take legal accountability for equipment and services and to plan and manage engineering projects to meet the objectives of the business.
Occupational Tasks:
- Create effective maintenance strategies to ensure that production stoppages are kept to an absolute minimum.
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department.
- Ensure quality of the production through preventative maintenance strategies.
- Ensure that all safety standards are adhered to in accordance with statutory legislation.
- Ensuring that the correct maintenance strategies are employed to extend the lifecycle of machines and equipment.
- Hire, train, and supervise engineering staff members. Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs.
- Overall engineering responsibility for the plant.
- Propose and oversee budgets, approving expenditure, and making decisions about the purchase of materials and/or services.
- Propose and oversee timelines for engineering projects.Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert.
- Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes.
- Set engineering, maintenance and process targets.
- Assist with the development of capital project plans and the operational management thereof to ensure on time completion within specification and Capex parameters.
- Be cognisant of current maintenance best practices and the ability to implement these in line with legislative parameters.
- Responsible for Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, Reliability, Engineering and Planning.
- Translate business objectives into functional capital projects and lead to completion.
- Ensure compliance with governance and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health and environment standards.
- People management of external contractors and professional services.
- Monitor and manage energy usage (Electricity and Gas).
Work Systems:
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects and Outlook) – Intermediate to advanced level.

Job Qualification & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:

In depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993
OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 Occupational helath and Safety Standard
ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
Lean management concepts and tools
Understanding of South African Labour Laws
Personnel Management
ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and related systems
Sound knowledge and understanding of contract management and the provision of services
